Description of
Program:
The Fellow will work with the physicians who specialize in endourology
and minimally invasive urologic oncology in the Department of Urology
and the Kimmel Cancer Center of Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Bagley
is responsible for the endourologic aspects of the training and laparoscopy
and minimally invasive urologic oncology is managed by Drs. Leonard Gomella,
Deborah Glassman, Edouard Trabulsi and Costas Lallas at Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital and Dr. David McGinnis at the Mainline Health Hospitals.
The fellowship focuses on ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephroscopy, laparoscopic
renal procedures, including nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy and pyeloplasty,
as well as laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Pure laparoscopic and robotically
assisted procedures are employed. There is also a program in brachytherapy
and other techniques in minimally invasive oncology including cryotherapy
and radiofrequency ablation. The Fellow attends the Stone Clinic and the
Multidisciplinary GU Oncology Clinic. There is a dedicated Endourology
Suite at the University hospital with a wide range of endourologic equipment
and a DaVinci Robot. The office is equipped with a Holmium laser and instruments
for TUMT. The Department of Urology has an active practice that includes
both routine endourologic and urologic oncology programs and protocol
studies. The fellowship is a two year program certified by the Endourology
Society.

Bench space and animal lab facilities
A full functioning laboratory is available within
the department. Animal lab facilities are available with a Radiology Suite
and with facilities for large and small animals in the same building.
Ph.D. to supervise research
There are two Ph.D 's and one M.D. members of
the Department who are involved in research on a full-time basis and are
available for consultation and collaboration. In addition, members of
the many departments of the hospital and University are active collaborators.
Fellows will participate in the call schedule with attendings.
On campus housing
Limited on campus housing is available. The location
of the University in Center City Philadelphia offers convenient off campus
housing.
