Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Urology at Robotic Surgery Program at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine, New York, NY

 

The fellowship is available for 1 or 2 years in Minimally Invasive Surgery, with the 2-year fellowship geared towards a strong academic career.   The focus of this training will be all aspects of advanced laparoscopic robotic assisted surgery including oncology and reconstruction.   In addition, our program has the opportunity for a robust percutaneous and ureteroscopic stone and upper tract carcinoma experience.
The fellow will function as a junior level attending at Mount Sinai Health System.  The Mount Sinai Health System is the largest hospital network in the New York region, which offers an expansive exposure to different patient populations.  The fellow’s annual salary and benefits are commensurate with a Chief Resident/Fellow at Mount Sinai, and allows for a comfortable living in New York City.
Clinical:
The fellow will be exposed to a broad variety of minimally invasive urologic oncology including surgical treatment of prostate, kidney, adrenal, bladder, and upper tract carcinoma.  He/She will also have exposure to the Comprehensive Cancer Center, Clinical Trials program, and participate in these meetings and conferences.  This program offers an immersive experience in minimally invasive urologic surgery.  The Fellow will work directly with the Program Director Dr. Ketan Badani, and Chair of Urology Dr. Ash Tewari.
Research:
The fellow will play a leadership role as a member of our urologic oncology and MIS research team.  The research team consists of full time research students, urology residents, statistician, international research fellows, and medical students.  The research has a broad base, but focuses on urologic oncology clinical outcomes, testing and development of new technologies, and clinical investigation in genomic and biomarkers.  We also have opportunity for translational research with one of our three full time PhD laboratories.  The fellows have been very productive, publishing in peer reviewed journals, and presenting at national and international meetings.

 

Education:
The fellow will be expected to attend and participate in our active didactic program in the department of urology which includes tumor board, grand rounds, campbell’s club, and cancer center meetings.  We also have a robust simulation lab with active research and curriculum validation studies that involve both a stand alone robotics simulator and the daVinci console simulator.  The fellow will also be responsible for teaching residents, medical students, and visiting doctors.
Application Process:
