Claus G. Roehrborn, MD, joined the urology faculty at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1992 and is currently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology. Dr. Roehrborn's research interests are in the areas of benign and malignant prostate diseases, including medical minimally invasive therapies for BPH, and markers for prostate cancer. His basic, translation and clinical research has yielded nearly 500 peer-reviewed publications, more that 30 book chapters, and numerous other contributions to the literature. He serves on the editorial board of many peer-reviewed journals, is associate editor of Urology, and coeditor of the comprehensive and authoritative Textbook of BPH. At present, Dr. Roehrborn continues to be involved in virtually all aspects of BPH research as well as translational and clinical research in prostate cancer.
Seth Bechis, MD
Seth Bechis, MD, is a board-certified urologist who cares for patients with diseases of the urinary tract, including kidney stones, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate, and men's health issues. As member of the Comprehensive Kidney Stone Center at UC San Diego Health, he has a special interest in advanced surgical treatment, medical prevention and research on kidney stone disease. He has surgical expertise in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for complex stones, ureteroscopy and shockwave lithotripsy.
Dr. Bechis specializes in all procedures of the prostate including minimally invasive procedures such as Rezum water vapor therapy and UroLift, as well as robotic surgery and GreenLight™ Laser photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP).
Dr. Bechis is among only a select number of physicians in the country to be designated as a Center of Excellence for GreenLight™ Laser Therapy. He is the first in California to achieve this recognition which marks a high degree of experience with GreenLight™ Laser Therapy and commitment to delivering effective, long-lasting therapy to men suffering from BPH.
As a urologist at an academic medical center, Dr. Bechis is involved in teaching and education. He also serves as the associate program director for the UC San Diego - Kaiser Laparoscopy/Endourology Fellowship in the Department of Urology at UC San Diego School of Medicine. His current research includes improving surgical techniques and clinical outcomes in stone disease, as well as tools for stone diagnosis and opiate-sparing pathways for managing pain.
Dean Elterman, MD, MSc, FRCSCCanada
Dr. Dean Elterman is an academic urologist at the University of Toronto, sub-specializing in functional urology. His clinical and research interests include voiding dysfunction, particularly benign prostate enlargement, sacral neuromodulation and men’s health. He is the medical director of the Prostate Cancer Rehabilitation Clinic at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. Dr. Elterman trained at the University of Toronto, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is an investigator in numerous BPH clinical trials and lectures internationally on the topics of novel technologies for BPH and sacral neuromodulation, and teaches courses at the AUA and SIU.
